The increased frequency and extent of harmful algal blooms (HABs) has sparked the need for greater knowledge about the physical factors that control algal growth. Although primary producers require at least 20 different elements, the vast majority of what is known about nutrient limitation in aquatic ecosystems focuses on just two elements: N and P. Macronutrients (N and P) provide the fuel for algae but micronutrients (e.g., Fe, Mo, Zn) form the enzymatic engines that promote rapid and efficient growth…..

Project WET and Wonders of Wetlands (WOW) Facilitator Workshop

WHEN:  Monday – Wednesday, May 22 – 24, 2017

WHERE: Horace Collins Lab, 3311 S. Old State Rd., Delaware OH


Project WET and The Wonders of Wetlands will be offered as an educator workshop (Project WET May 22 Only) or a facilitator workshop Monday -Wednesday, May 22-24 at the Horace Collins Lab, Delaware, Ohio. Workshop fee is $20 for Monday only or $120 for Monday – Wednesday. Fees cover workshop materials and facilitation. Participants will receive; 1) certification as Project WET and WOW State-wide Facilitator (attending Monday – Wednesday, 2) copies of both educator guides and secondary modules (Healthy Water, Healthy People (middle/high school) and the newly released early childhood guide Getting Little Feet WET, 3) valuable training in the use of guide activities and materials. 4) professional resource speakers for future contact, and 5) how guides are tied into ODE Science Standards.

The Water Management Association of Ohio and Environmental Professionals Network (EPN) are partnering to offer a half day meeting focused on protecting our river systems.

Rivers worldwide continue to be among our most vital resources, providing drinking water, wastewater treatment, habitat, recreation, navigation, beauty, and more.  But too often they have been neglected and abused, or simply taken for-granted.  Many communities are working to protect and restore our rivers and streams.  Learn how to join those efforts.

Participants are welcome to attend only the breakfast and keynote as a guest of EPN for $10; or attend the entire event for $30 through WMAO.  Exhibit space plus two registrations is available for corporate sponsors for $300.  Student attendance is free of charge.

Muddy Creek Cleanup

Water and Land Symposium

WHAT:   Fourth Annual Water and Land Symposium – “Sustainability and Resilience on the Land-Water Continuum”

WHEN:  October 5 – 6, 2016

WHERE: Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center, 215 South Depeyster Street, Kent, Ohio; map 

This symposium attracts more than 300 attendees from the many universities, federal, state and regional agencies, and private companies from northeastern Ohio. This year we are delighted to have Cynthia Barnett, journalist and author of Mirage, Blue Revolution and Rain: A Natural and Cultural History as our keynote speaker. Cynthia will also be offering a book signing the evening of the keynote, which will also include our first poster session. The second day of the conference will highlight new approaches to a variety of environmental and social issues through distinguished speakers and formal and informal discussions. A plenary session will set the stage for breakout sessions and posters in the afternoon. Breakout sessions will focus on “Restoration and Ecosystem Services,” “Water and Sustainability,” and “Risk and Resilience.” These breakout and poster sessions will provide an opportunity for more specific discussions focused on key underlying issues. Transboundary Water Politics in the Euphrates Tigris Region
