The City of Avon Lake on the shoreline of Lake Erie has over 23 storm outfalls directly to the Lake and three natural waterways leading to Lake Erie. Access, conditional and maintenance of these outfalls is important due tot eh many different tributaries the City oversees. This presentation will present the challenges the City has faced, including during new construction as we are still a growing suburb. This presentation will also discuss how we have improved our inspection techniques and where we are moving forward.

Mr. Reitz is a registered professional engineer in the state of Ohio and has been employed with the City of Avon Lake for over 32 years in various duties. His current position is for oversight of the City’s Engineering, Service and Planning Departments and serves in the capacity of the City’s Stormwater Program Manager. These positions offer him a unique opportunity to be the City’s code writer, development reviewer, and project enforcement. Currently the City is working on the final two years of combined sewer separations with a recent focus on lateral separations. Mr. Reitz is the one who prepares the budget for the Public Works Department and knows the dealings between the Mayor and Council and dealing with the public. Mr. Reitz has been an advocate for municipalities in the area of stormwater awareness and has worked with EPA on various training programs.
